sure. And encouragement can help, but its walking a fine line. You have to encourage them to live differently, but if you do this and they still continue with an addiction it becomes an enabling behavior. Addicts are hard to deal with because it takes a long time for them to realize that they are not in control of what they are doing. Humans always want to think they are in control. If they do realize they don’t have control then they will most likely seek help.

well it looks like you’re in with a good crowd…
you can offer to help someone, but it won’t actually motivate anyone who has an addiction. I’ve known cutters, alcoholics, and a heroin addict and none of those people got out of their addiction until they decided to. You can’t help an addict until they ask for it and even then they may just be lying. Addiction is ugly and there is no good way to go about it.
